Question: I build a new long sensor and calibrate I keep getting a message to check my calib gage location
I created a new sensor using a PEL extension. When I perform a calibration, I keep getting a message to check my calibration gage location?

    Solution:

[--- UPDATED: 8/1/2006 7:58:33 AM BY AGENT: Vince Clements ---]

When you make a new sensor build going from a short length to a long length, re-setting the calibration sphere location may be required.

Perform a manual calibration of the 0:0 orientation and make sure "Update Gage" is checked. This will update the gage location for this long build.

You do not need update gage checked for subsequent calibrations

Question: The software is making a whining noise and there is a line from my graphicaal probe
When I run any program I hear a whining noise from the PC, my graphics are moving around and there is a line from my graphical probe to the graphical part.

    Solution:

[--- UPDATED: 8/4/2006 9:48:50 AM BY AGENT: Vince Clements ---]

This is "Auto Target Zoom". It is designed to guide you both visually through the line from the probe to the part and audibly by increasing the pitch of the sound as you approach the nominal target point. This is extremely useful for manual CMMs, but can be irritating for DCC CMMS.

To  disable this feature, click on the "hammer" icon (3rd icon from the right) on the main toolbar in the Graphics Viewer- press F3 if you are not in the Graphics Viewer.
Auto Target Zoom will be checked. Click on Auto Target Zoom to uncheck it.

    Question: Pick option Toolbar missing
When clicking on the Pick Option icon from the main toolbar in OpenDMIS, the Pick option toolbar does not appear to come up or show. What can be done to resolve this issue?

    Solution:

[--- UPDATED: 7/17/2006 2:23:33 PM BY AGENT: Henri Bosch ---]

This issue can occur when someone, accidentally or deliberately moves the pick option toolbar to one of the extremities of the screen. The toolbar is not actually gone yet, it is very hard to find.

The resolution to this problem requires Registry editing of two parameters for OpenDMIS. In order to be able to edit the registry, the current user login will need to have permissions (read, write, edit) to edit the registry. This will need to be provided by the systems Administrator. Registry editing MUST be performed with GREAT CARE as any accidental removal or relocation of Registry keys may result in loss of data or malfunctioning of any Software!

    1.      Exit OpenDMIS

    2.      Click on START

    3.      Click on RUN

    4.      Type in REGEDIT in the command line

    5.      Click OK and the Registry Editor will show up

    6.      Use the “Explorer Style” pane on the left to browse down to the following location

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> External-Array -> Neptune -> Ver 1.0 -> KVRSL -> Setting

    7.      Highlight “PickOptionDlg PosX on the right and hit the delete key on the keyboard

    8.      Highlight “PickOptionDlg PosY on the right and hit the delete key on the keyboard

    9.      Exit the Registry Editor

    10.  Now restart OpenDMIS

Question: How can I get a surface from my CAD model, it is only giving me a plane?
I need to tolerance profile of a surface, but my CAD model is giving me a plane.
How do I get a surface?

    Solution:

[--- UPDATED: 7/20/2006 9:42:14 AM BY AGENT: Vince Clements ---]

Feature types can easily be converted in the Feature Database tab by dragging and dropping onto another feature type.

To convert a plane to a surface, drag the desired plane from the plane node and drop it onto the surface node. A new surface will  be created from the plane (this may take a couple of seconds depending on the complexity). Refer to OpenDMIS Help under the "Feature Database - Drag and Drop" topic for more information.

    Question: Alignment Offsets
Often our part drawings require us to take measurements from a reference point that is different than our alignment features (while in the same alignment). Our xxxxx software on our xxxxx CMM allows this to be entered directly. Is there a simple way to enter an offset in OpenDMIS?

    Solution:

This can simply be accomplished by going into the Coordinate Systems operation panel and by selecting the "translation" icon. You can now enter the desired offset values for your coordinate system, press the "Add/Activate" icon and you are ready to peform the tasks you desire.

[--- UPDATED: 9/18/2006 9:16:44 AM BY AGENT: Henri Bosch ---]

    Dear Wendel,

    1. Make sure Learn mode is ON
    2. In the variable Database, Right Mouse button (RMB) on Integer and select NEW

    3. Enter the variable name in the Label field. Name cannot contain invalid characters such as spaces etc. We named our PicVar. The select OK

4 Now, RMB on the PicVar variable in the database and select Prompt/Picture (If you only get the option to delete the selected variable, that means that your learn mode is OFF. Turn it ON and try again). A file dialog will appear that allows you to select the desired file. You can select either BMP or JPG files.

Good Luck and let us know if this took care of your question.

    Sincerely,

Question: We just put our OpenDMIS computer on the newtwork, now I get a license prompt
We just put our OpenDMIS computer on the network. I am now logged in as a user with limited access.
Each time I start OpenDMIS I have to acknowledge a license prompt and rebuild my probe mode.

    Solution:

You will need read/write acess to the following registry key and it's subkeys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
           Software
                External_Array

You will also need read/write access to the OpenDMIS directory and it's subdirectories.

    Question: office 2003
Will Office 2007 pro work instead of 2003 pro

    Solution:

Office 2007 has been confirmed operation with OpenDMIS Excel.

After installing Office 2207, the OWC10.dll must be downloaded and installed.
OWC10.DLL can be downloaded from Microsoft:

Question: will the Excel output work with Office 2007 or only 2003
Before I by Office 2007 ( I already bought Excel 2007 and found out it didn't work) I wanted to make sure that it will work properly with the OpenDMIS. The knowledge base only says that it will work with 2003

Question: Update Offline to Real Probes
How can I update my offline license installation to the probes that are on my CMM?

    Solution:

    [--- UPDATED: 10/3/2007 4:34:50 PM ---]

In the OpenDMIS installation directory (normally C:\Program Files\OpenDMIS\) there will be a subdirectory call ProbeModel.
Copy this directory from your on-line machine to replace the ProbeModel directory in your offline station.
The offline station will now have the identical probe configuratation as the on-line seat.

Question: PDF Output error with v2.8

I've just upgraded to version 2.8. It appears that the .pdf out no longer works properly. The output file can't be opened. The file seems to exist (although file size seems quite small), but it won't open in Adobe reader.

    Solution:

    [--- UPDATED: 5/4/2009 1:11:19 PM ---]

The PDF patch has been tested and issued.
It is available for download at:
    http://www.openDMIS.com/dnld/releases/2.8_PDFPatch.zip
    Shut down OpenDMIS
Extract the zipped file to your OpenDMIS directory to overwrite the previous kWndOutput.ocx.
Re-start OpenDMIS and you will have PDF back.

    Sorry for the inconvienience.

Question: Will OpenDMIS run with a 64-bit processor?

We are looking to upgrade our pc's to 64-bit processors, will OpenDMIS run on a 64 bit system? For awhile anyway, we will be running XP.

    Solution:

    [--- UPDATED: 8/18/2009 2:31:13 PM ---]

    Dear Nick,

OpenDMIS, at this time, is not supported on Windows XP 64 Bit. It is our intention to start supporting Windows 7 in due time. Initially for the OS and eventually for the 64 Bit. This may be a little while still!

    Sincerely,

    The Xspect Support Team!
